Subject line: “Research Internship – Summer”
Curious about building machine learning models that improve lives through voice?
Join Sonde Health as a Research Intern and contribute to pioneering voice-based technologies. At Sonde, preventative healthcare is at the heart of everything we do.
We’re on a mission to unlock health insights from everyday voice. As part of our research team, you’ll help design, train, and evaluate machine learning models that detect health signals from speech recordings. You’ll tackle meaningful challenges like modeling uncertainty, working with noisy labels, building systems that generalize across diverse populations, and deploying models on edge devices with constrained memory.
This is a hands-on opportunity to work with real-world voice data at scale—alongside experienced scientists and engineers—and help shape the next generation of vocal biomarker AI systems.
What You’ll Work On
Design and evaluate ML models to detect vocal biomarkers from speech.
Explore novel architectures for modeling voice-health correlations.
Build and optimize pipelines for preprocessing, feature extraction, and data augmentation.
Research methods for handling weak supervision, label uncertainty, and domain variability.
Work with real-world data where annotations may be subjective or imprecise.
Collaborate with senior engineers and researchers to evaluate model performance across diverse populations and environments.
We're Looking for Someone Who
Is currently pursuing a master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a related field.
Has experience in audio/speech processing and is familiar with acoustic and prosodic features and speech AI model development.
Possesses a strong foundation in supervised learning, model evaluation, and optimization techniques.
Is proficient in Python and libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn.
Has familiarity with concepts like explainable AI, uncertainty estimation, noisy labels, or weak supervision.
Has an interest in voice, behavioral health signals, or audio-based digital biomarkers.
Brings curiosity, strong problem-solving skills, and a collaborative approach to research.
At Sonde Health, we’re building voice-enabled health monitoring tools designed for the real world. You’ll contribute to impactful ML applications that power scalable and accessible health insights using voice. Our team is rooted in science, driven by innovation, and united by the belief that early detection saves lives.
This internship offers the opportunity to work in a mission-driven, fast-paced environment where your research can directly contribute to real-world clinical and commercial impact.
